Great artists throughout history have expressed the human experience in a universal language of form and beauty. The Montblanc Masters of Art Collection honors their eternal contribution to the quest for perfection in art – a quest Montblanc both celebrates and participates in. One artist whose vision helped shape Viennese Art Nouveau and the Golden Age is Gustav Klimt. The Montblanc Masters of Art Homage to Gustav Klimt Limited Edition 888 celebrates his active commitment to the Vienna Secessssion and features design highlights from his Beethoven Frieze – the large scale masterpiece of his ‘Golden Phase’ that he created for the Secession building. The relief-like solid Au 750 yellow gold overlay on the platinum-coated cap, with its spirs and vertical lines symbolizing the strings of a lyre, is a reference to the golden ornamentation of the Beethoven Frieze as well as its lyre-playing figure of poetry, whose sounds are said to quench humanity's longing for happiness.
The slightly curved lines ending in three spirals on the partly platinum-coated, partly yellow gold-coated clip of the Limited Edition 888 correspond to the decoration on the forged metal frame. The handcrafted solid Au 750 yellow gold nib of the Homage to Gustav Klimt Limited Edition 888 is adorned with finely engraved graphic elements that form the typical geometric patterns seen in many of Gustav Klimt's works.
